Life as a BCS Student

Life as a BCS Student

Studio learning is a unique experience, and the Mississippi Â鶹´«Ã½ University Department of Building Construction Science provides a supportive environment for personal growth and professional development.

One big advantage of studio learning is it allows for more students to have more one-on-one time with professors.

Mississippi Â鶹´«Ã½ building construction science students have access to a variety of specialized facilities and tools within Howell Building and neighboring Giles Hall to help them succeed in their studies: printing and plotting labs, the Bob and Kathy Luke Library (college-specific material), a woodworking shop, a 3-D printer, a CNC router, and more.

Who we are: Student, faculty, and alumni spotlights.

Field Trips and Site Visits

Students in the Department of Building Construction Science travel to different metropolitan locations each year to get exposure to art, design, and construction in these areas.

Throughout the year, various studios also participate in closer site visits to conduct research relating to their specific studio projects.

To get a feel for what the trips are really like, check out a report from the fall 2018 trip to Chicago.

BCS Student Organizations

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) – Student Chapter

The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Student Chapter is a university-affiliated student organization for building construction science, architecture, and engineering majors. This organization is responsible for helping plan and run events for the Building Construction Science Program such as skeet shoots, career fairs, lunch-and-learns, and several other opportunities for students to connect and network with companies. ABC is also responsible for helping promote the ethical standards set forth in being a construction professional. It’s a great way to become involved with your major while in college and have some great opportunities to build relationships with other students and industry professionals.
