Upchurch Plumbing, Inc., is a mechanical, plumbing, hydronic piping and sheet metal company with a home office in Greenwood, Mississippi. The company has satellite offices in Ridgeland, MS, and Jackson, TN. The company works mainly in the Southeastern U.S. (in all states that are in the Southeastern Conference). Upchurch Plumbing works on commercial and industrial projects – both new projects and renovation projects.
Tell us a little about what you do in your role at Upchurch.
I handle the business side of Upchurch Plumbing, Inc., including banking, insurance bonding estimating and budgets.
Why did your company join our advisory board?
I joined the MSU IAB to help share my business and life experiences of what I have seen by years working in the industry. I also want to help the BCS program teach the students the things that they will need to work in the construction industry with the trends that I see in the field.
What piece of advice do you have for students?
The advice that I have for the students in the BCS program is to try to find the field of construction that they like and learn everything they can about that field. The students that come out of the BCS program have a lot of different directions that they can go. They can work for a general contractor, sub-contractor or supplier. They can work as a project manager, estimator or superintendent. They can work behind a desk, in the field or anywhere in between.

The students that graduate in the BCS program are going to be the people that drive the direction that the construction industry goes in the future.
