Cullis Wade Depot Art Gallery
Opening September 29 in the Cullis Wade Depot Art Gallery, Anonymous Women is a display of photographs by Patty Carroll. Works in the exhibition are selected from her multiple "Anonymous Woman" projects that portray female figures hidden or obscured from the viewer by colorful textiles, plants, and objects.
Patty Carroll is known for her use of highly intense, saturated color photographs. Her most recent project, 鈥淎nonymous Women,鈥 consists of a 3-part series of studio installations made for the camera, addressing women and their complicated relationships with domesticity. By camouflaging the figure in drapery and/or domestic objects, Carroll creates a dark and humorous game of hide-and-seek between her viewers and the Anonymous Woman.
The photographs are published in two monographs, Anonymous Women, released in January, 2017 by Daylight Books, and Anonymous Women: Domestic Demise, January 2020 by Ain鈥檛 Bad Books. The 鈥淎nonymous Woman鈥 series has exhibited internationally and has won multiple awards including Carroll being acknowledged as one of Photolucida鈥檚 鈥淭op 50鈥 in 2014 and in 2017.
Carroll鈥檚 work has exhibited internationally and is featured in prestigious blogs and magazines such as the Huffington Post, The Cut, Ain鈥檛 Bad Magazine, and BJP in Britain. For more information and current images visit:
