The Department of Art is delighted to bring LIVE IN CONCERT! to the Cullis Wade Depot Art Gallery.
Opening Sept. 3, 2024, the exhibition features decades of posters by alumna and Professor Emeritus Jamie Burwell Mixon.
A public reception will be held Fri., Sept. 6 from 5-6 p.m. also in the gallery.
About the Artist
Mixon grew up in Jackson and is an artist, illustrator and designer. Recently retired, she served as graphic design coordinator in the Department of Art at Mississippi Â鶹´«Ã½ for 29 years, serving as interim department head for one year. During her tenure, Mixon was named a Grisham Master Teacher, won the Grisham Teaching Excellence Award and the Â鶹´«Ã½ Research Award, as well as numerous regional, national and international design awards.
As a college student, she created her first music posters while a member of the student group—Music Maker Productions, hung around backstage, sat on the front row of dozens of shows and met Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen signed her poster, "To Jamie, keep on rocking". She was hooked. Her design work has been featured in Communication Arts, Print, HOW, Creative Quarterly, Logo Lounge, French Paper Sample Room & beyond. Her posters have twice been named Poster of the Year at the Annual National Pollstar Concert Industry Awards in Los Angeles with many top-three awards in this yearly competition.
The Depot Art Gallery is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and select Saturdays with times to be announced.
