MSU student work selected for Mississippi Collegiate Arts Competition exhibit

Twenty-five works of art by 17 current Mississippi 鶹ý University students and one alumnus are featured through Saturday [March 10] in the Mississippi Collegiate Arts Competition exhibit at the University of Mississippi Museum in Oxford.

Dan Brawner, graphic design professor at Watkins College of Art in Nashville, Tennessee, served as juror for the competition, which is now in its 68th year. The statewide juried competition is designed to showcase the high quality of visual arts education taking place in Mississippi higher education.

Of 693 entries from 10 four-year colleges and universities, 100 works were selected. In addition to MSU, students represent Delta 鶹ý University, Jackson 鶹ý University, Millsaps College, Mississippi College, Mississippi Valley 鶹ý University, Mississippi University for Women, University of Mississippi, University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey University.

MSU’s 2018 Mississippi Collegiate Arts Competition exhibitors include (by hometown):

ABERDEEN—Reagan N. Huffman, a senior art/graphic design major.

BRANDON— Ki’erre Dawkins, an art/fine arts bachelor’s graduate; Lexus S. Giles, a senior art/fine arts major; and Jordan C. Knight, a senior art/fine arts major.

CLEVELAND—Justice B. Williams, a senior art/graphic design and photography major.

MADISON—Anna K. “Katie” Erickson, a senior art/graphic design major who received the Juror’s Award in Graphic Design for her piece “Mad Mary’s”; and Nicolette L. “Niki” Johnson, a senior art/fine arts major.

MAYHEW—Robert W. Lewis, a senior art/photography major.

OLD HICKORY, Tennessee—Claire M. Burgett, a senior art/fine arts major who received the Juror’s Award in Mixed Media for her work “Flowers.”
